The first annual conference titled “The Economic Cost of Conflict and Options for Recovery” held in semera.

The first annual conference on the economic development of the Afar National Regional State, titled “The Economic Cost of Conflict and Options for Recovery,” took place in semera,Afar region.

The conference has co-organized by the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES), the Ethiopian Economics Association (EEA) and Samara University (SU).

 

The conference aims to address the profound economic impacts of conflicts in the region and explore viable pathways for recovery and sustainable development.

Three Papers presented on Economic Impact of Conflict, Role of Institutions and Policy,Recovery Strategies and a significant panal discussions carried out among participants.

The event was accompanied by the signing of MoU between the Ethiopian Economics Association, the Afar Region Planning and Development Bureau, Samara University, and the Afar Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Fund Office. The agreement aims to foster collaboration and enhance efforts toward economic recovery and development in the conflict-affected areas.

Prominent figures including Prof. Mengistu Ketema, CEO of the EEA; Dr. Yonas Adaye, Comissioner of Ethiopian National Dialogue Commission; Hamid Duula, Head of the Afar Planning and Development Bureau; Susanne Stollreiter, Country Representative of FES Ethiopia; and Dr. Abdurehman Kedir, A/President of Samara University ; and higher and middle leaders from Samara University and regional offices.
