           Objectives of the Program

    General Objective;

The general objective of the program is to produce qualified professionals in areas of Accounting and finance who will enhance the financial and economic development of the country.

   Specific objectives

With the view to realize the above objective, the MSc. program in Accounting & Finance has the following specific objectives:

  • To improve the quality, relevance and output of postgraduate programs in Accounting and Finance in Ethiopia.
  • To provide greater access to higher education programs in order to meet the high demand arising from the development efforts of the country generally and Afar Regional State particularly.
  • To undertake theoretical and applied researches relevant to the overall development strategy of the country.
  • To strengthen, develop and promote the professional and technical skills of the students in the areas of Accounting, Finance, and Auditing
  • To develop the competitive skill to prepare for career in Accounting, Finance and Auditing at Global level
  • To equip the students with the necessary skills and abilities in the preparation of financial reports and interpretation.
  • To make students know the application of Accounting principles, concepts, etc. in governmental units and not-for-profit organizations.
  • To enlighten Students with the concepts and principles of auditing, role, duties and responsibilities of auditors in general and the audit practice in Ethiopia in particular.

               Graduate Profile

The graduate profile is the base for designing a curriculum that would lead to the realization of the desired output. Thus, the graduates with M.Sc. in Accounting and Finance should have accounting and finance knowledge and understanding that enable them to:

Assume functional responsibilities in any sector where accountability and transparency are needed. They can assume positions in the areas of accounting and auditing, financial management, managerial functions, etc.

  • Analyze advanced cost and managerial accounting reports for users and advising decisions to be made at top-level management.
  • Carry out tax analysis
  • Undertake internal control system designs and audit planning.
  • Analyze, Design and Installation of Financial systems (manual or computerized)
  • Undertake advanced treasury management, portfolio analysis, investment decisions, debt analysis, equity analysis, and financial market analysis.
  • Execute project proposals, execution, monitoring and evaluation.
  • Develop and implement policies and strategies.
  • Develop and implement strategic information system.

              Admission Requirement

The program is interdisciplinary by its nature and therefore individuals who have BA or BSc degree in any field from an accredited university with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) equivalent to 2.00 and above can apply to it.

Selection for admission into the Msc Program in Accounting and finance is made on the basis of the candidate’s performance in the entrance examination.

               Graduate requirement

  • For award of a degree, minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average or CGPA (3.00) and maximum of one ‘’C’’ and no ‘’ D ‘’ and ‘’ F’’ grades.
  • Minimum of satisfactory in MSc. in Accounting and Finance Thesis.
  • In case a student acquires required number of credits prescribed for a degree, but fails to have a minimum CGPA, the student in consultation with the program head and with the approval from departmental council, will register for a course/s again for improvement in grade/CGPA.
