MPH in Reproductive Health

        Program Objectives:

The objectives of the MPH program in Reproductive Health will be:

  • Develop reproductive health service guidelines, manuals, and training materials based on reproductive Health strategy and population policy.
  • Plan outreach services in Family planning & integrated Community Based reproductive health services
  • Collaborate with related sectors such as governmental and non-governmental organizations in promoting RH services
  • Encourage and carry out surveys and research on RH issues
  • Design reproductive health programs and projects and solicit funds
  • Monitor and evaluate RH, population, and Nutrition programs
  • Carryout policy Advocacy on RH issues
  • Demonstrate ethical and professional relationships with stakeholders in addressing RH issues

              Graduate Profiles:

Upon completion of the Program in Reproductive Health at Samara University, the graduates should be able to:

  • Research reproductive health issues and organize workshops for information dissemination.
  • Identify the major socio-economic and demographic factors affecting sexual and RH care practice, design intervention strategies, and implement, and evaluate RH activities at all levels
  • Work with other organizations on intra and Inter-sectoral basis in carrying out reproductive Health activities.
  • Integrate reproductive health activities into the existing health service program
  • Address gender issues including male involvement in all areas of sexual and reproductive health,
  • Promotes community involvement and participation and mobilizes resources for support of reproductive health activities.
  • Contribute significantly to the human resource capacity building related to reproductive health
  • Demonstrate professional ethics and discipline as Reproductive health professionals
  • Demonstrate commitment to the promotion of the Reproductive health profession
  • Play a proactive role in addressing cross-cutting issues like Gender, HIV/AIDS, environment, and population development to facilitate national development
  • Serve as consultant for different institutions including Governmental and Non-
  • Governmental organizations in areas of reproductive health issues.
  • Play a pivotal role in addressing the national and regional development needs related to reproductive health.
  • Update him/her and keep abreast of contemporary issues related to reproductive health

              Admission Requirements:

In addition to the general admission requirements of Samara University,

  • Applicants should have at least a first degree from a known accredited University in a relevant field of study (Medicine, public health, Nursing, Environmental Health, Occupational Health, Midwifery, Medical Laboratory, Optometry, Anesthesia, Physiotherapy, Nutrition, Health Education, Pharmacy) sociology, psychology, biology, and Gender health sciences  
  • Preliminary screening shall be based on the following criteria
    • A minimum CGPA of 2.00 from a first degree
    • Sponsorship letter from employer/sponsor for sponsored students or declaration statement for self-sponsored applicants
  • Applicants who pass the preliminary screening will be invited to sit for an entrance written examination that will mostly have general knowledge questions related to biostatistics, epidemiology, reproductive health, nutrition, health systems, environmental health, and health promotion. The distribution of the questions will be as follows.
    • Biostatistics and Epidemiology – 20%
    • Environmental Health-10%
    • Health Systems and Health education – 20%
    • Reproductive Health  – 40%
    • Nutrition – 10%

              Graduate Requirements:

  • Student achievements in any of the courses shall be graded as per the cut-offs stipulated in the Samara University Legislation, 2017.
  • The academic standing of the students shall be determined periodically as per the rules and regulations of the Samara University Legislation, 2017.
  • A graduate student must sustain a minimum CGPA stipulated in the Samara University Legislation, 2017 throughout his/her study period in the program.
  • The respective Department Graduate Council (DGC) shall determine the academic standing of graduate students based on the Samara University Legislation.
  • Students must complete all the required courses, defend their thesis successfully and achieve a CGPA of 3.00 and satisfy all the graduation requirements stipulated in the Samara University Legislation, 2017 to be eligible for graduation.

Up on successful completion of the program, the degree nomenclature will be:

  • In English: The Degree of masters of Public Health with a Specialty in Reproductive Health
  • In Amharic: በ“በሕብረተሰብ ጤና የስነተዋልዶ ማስትሬት ዲግሪ”
